HORMONES
IN MENOPAUSE?
I believe that helping patients to maintain
what is “normal” is our best guide for a woman’s
long term health.
Hormones are a normal part of our lives. For example,
insulin and thyroid are hormones essential for good health.
If we do not have them, we are not healthy. Menopause (or lack
of estrogen) is not normal. 100 years ago, the vast majority
of women were dead in their fifties. Media and some science
have said that what is normal for us is “abnormal” and
therefore women are now afraid of hormones when they are going
into menopause. Many women
can expect to live 30 – 50 years of their lives in menopause. Lack of estrogen
may have serious impacts on health. We try to help women understand their options
for this time in life.
