WHY NOT HYSTERECTOMY?
Female organs are a normal part of our
lives. Removing the uterus and/or ovaries may impact hormonal
well-being, vaginal strength and/or sexual function. For
some unknown reason, we have decided that our organs are
not very important. When my training began 25 years
ago, I did not question if it was a good idea to remove female
organs. After listening to my patients, I started to question.
In this country, over thirty percent of women will lose their
female organs. In Europe, only ten to fifteen percent
of women have a hysterectomy. Many physicians say that we
do not have the science to prove that it hurts women to lose
their organs. Is this not backwards thinking? Should
we not prove FIRST that it is not harmful instead of assuming
that no harm is done? If we have options that work, can we
justify taking a chance that having a hysterectomy will not
cause problems? In the past, we did not have a lot of options.
This is no longer true. At BEST CAREmed, in the past three
years, our hysterectomy rate has decreased by almost 80%.
These are just a few of the areas where we help people learn what choices they
have. If you are someone who wants to be sure about your BEST choice, we encourage
you to visit us at BEST CAREmed.
